About Mudan Boutique
Our Story
Mudan Boutique launched in November 2005 with the goal of introducing the China we have fallen in love with to the rest of the world. We arrived in Shanghai in the summer of 2002, and soon realized that beneath the glitz and glamour of Asia’s fastest growing city lies a simple elegance, an understated grace—qualities you will find in every item you purchase from Mudan Boutique.
Our team in Shanghai hand-selects each pearl, each piece of jade. All of our cultured freshwater pearls come from the famous Chinese pearl city of Zhuji, in Zhejiang Province, or China’s tropical Hainan Island. And much of our jade was discovered and hand-carved in China and Southeast Asia. For our handbags, and other accessories, we have teamed with some of Shanghai’s up-and-coming fashion designers who deliver fresh takes on classic Asian elegance.
Expect more products soon. We have traveled China extensively, and are constantly looking for new and unique items we think our customers will love.
Mudan Boutique is a small company, and that benefits you, the customer. We have a strong commitment to high quality and affordable prices. Every product is checked for quality several times at both our headquarters in Shanghai and Atlanta. Each order is handled personally by one of Mudan Boutique’s founders. This personal approach allows us to offer premium products at highly competitive prices.

- What does “Mudan” mean? “Mudan” (pronounced moo-don) is the Chinese name for the peony flower, which many consider China’s unofficial national flower. We think the mudan is beautiful—take a look for yourself—and decided it was the perfect name for our boutique!
- I’d like to sell Mudan Boutique products to my friends. Is that possible? Product parties and trunk shows are a lot of fun! And we are currently working on a way to let our customers help sell items … and make some money while doing so. Stay tuned. And if you are interested, please let us know: Get involved!
- How can you offer such a great value for your merchandise? At Mudan Boutique we believe it is important to build relationships with both our designers and you, our customers. Because there are no steps or “middlemen” between Shanghai and you, we are able to pass along excellent values on all of our hand-selected merchandise.
- Do you ship internationally? Yes! Currently, our shipping rates are the same worldwide, too.
- Are your products guaranteed? At Mudan Boutique we stand behind each and every one of our products. If you are not satisfied for any reason, you are invited to return an item purchased from Mudan Boutique. Please see customer service for additional information or email service@mudanboutique.com.
- How did you choose CARE as your charity partner? Making a meaningful impact in the world is important to Mudan Boutique. We partnered with an organization that is both global and is focused on seeking lasting solutions to poverty. CARE is a global humanitarian organization and we are proud to contribute a portion of Mudan Boutique proceeds through our partnership.
- How can I suggest a product for you to carry? Your opinions and ideas are important to us. Please email info@mudanboutique.com with your suggestions for additional products to offer. We appreciate your input!
- When can I expect my shipment to arrive? After an order is placed with Mudan Boutique online, you will receive an order confirmation and an additional order shipment email with details about your purchases. In our communication with customers we include information about shipping—your safe and timely delivery is as important to us as it is to you. Please email service@mudanboutique.com at any point for additional information.
- Do you have physical retail space? We do not currently have retail space, which means Mudan Boutique does not pass along the overhead costs of maintaining a physical storefront to you. Our offices in Shanghai and in Atlanta provide the customer service and other store operations.
- Will I be charged sales tax? Only Georgia residents are charged the appropriate sales tax.
- I’d like to customize an order. Can I do that? Mudan Boutique strives to accommodate all custom orders. Please email service@mudanboutique.com with specific requests and we will respond as quickly as possible.
- Do you gift wrap? Most Mudan Boutique jewelry orders come shipped in a Chinese treasure box perfect for gifts. At the present time, we do not gift wrap, but please email service@mudanboutique.com with your specific needs and we will make every effort to accommodate.
- I made a mistake with my order. What should I do? Please email service@mudanboutique.com with questions or concerns about your order.
- What forms of payment do you accept? Please feel free to use your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card.
- When did you open your online store for business? Mudanboutique.com went live in May 2006.
- How can I order a quantity larger than the number available in the drop-down menu? Please email service@mudanboutique.com with your order information and we will be delighted to respond.
